Sunday Long Run Locations
Below are just a few options for Sunday long runs if you need new ideas on where to go.
Name | Terrain | Google Maps Link | Notes |
Richard Martin Trail | Gravel | There are 3 starting spots: south end, north end, and the middle. The entire trail is roughly 11 miles one way, starting at either end
Mooresville | Gravel | There are a couple of starting points and different trails, but this link starts at the main trail. You could start back near the bike shop, and run down the road if you wanted.
Big Cove Greenway | Paved | There are different directions you can go on this trail, and it can take you to other trails.
Hays Nature Preserve | Paved | It connects to Big Cove Greenway
Aldridge Creek Greenway | Paved | There are different starting points and different directions you can go.
Ditto Landing | Paved | You can get to this from Aldridge Creek Greenway. You can also run on the Tennessee River Greenway, which is gravel
Mountain Goat Trail (Perimeter Trail) | Paved (Perimeter) Trail (Mountain Goat) | This trail is in Sewanee, TN. Since it’s at a higher elevation at almost 2,000 feet, it can be a little cooler than Huntsville. The Perimeter trail is paved, and is about 4.6 miles one-way. The Perimeter trail is a real trail, with lots of hills and technical terrain, so trail shoes are recommended.
Redstone Arsenal Roads | Paved | If you have access to Redstone Arsenal, the roads are mostly empty on the weekends. Lot of locals ride bikes during this time.
Redstone Arsenal Greenway | Paved | If you don’t want to run on roads at Redstone, there is a paved trail. You can go in either direction, with one going to the NASA area and the other going towards the golf course.
Redstone Arsenal Mountains | Gravel and Trails | If you want a hill workout, you can run the mountains at Redstone if you have access. There is a gravel road that goes to the top of both Madkin Mountain and Weeden Mountain, and there are several trails on the mountains (off the gravel road). |
