The Hazel Green High School Track Team kicked off the 2026 outdoor season in strong fashion on Friday, February 27th at the Raider Invitational hosted by Decatur High School. As the first of two varsity meets in one weekend, it served as the perfect opportunity for Trojans across all event groups to shake off the winter rust and settle those early-season nerves.
Competing without a full squad, Hazel Green still delivered several standout performances.
Jonathan Mann set the tone in the throwing events, leading the boys with a 3rd-place finish in both the Javelin and Shot Put, while also turning in a solid performance in the Discus. His consistency across all three throws provided an early spark for the Trojan field crew.
On the track, the distance boys were anchored by Liam Bush. Liam battled to an 8th-place finish in the 3200 meters and had a breakthrough performance in the 1600, clocking a 5:25 — a new personal best and a strong statement to open the season. With plenty of racing still ahead, it was a promising sign of what’s to come.
In the sprints, Jeremiah Townsend led the charge in both the 100 and 200 meters, crossing in 12.32 and 24.54. David Jones showcased grit and determination by competing in the 100, 200, and 400 meters — a demanding triple that demonstrated both toughness and team-first mentality.
For the girls, Erin Jordan-Nwadike and Jordyn DeVille represented the Trojans in both the 100-meter dash and long jump, gaining valuable early-season experience and setting the foundation for growth as the season unfolds.
All in all, it was a strong opening chapter for the Trojans — a day of personal bests, competitive fire, and momentum-building performances. With one meet already under their belts and another on deck, Hazel Green is just getting started.
A great start to a big weekend of Trojans tearing up the track.
