The Hazel Green High School Track & Field team delivered a statement performance on April 24–25 at the AHSAA 6A Section 4 Championships in Muscle Shoals, showcasing depth, resilience, and championship grit across 41 events.

Competing with a combined 47 athletes across both the boys and girls teams, Hazel Green delivered a complete program effort from start to finish. The Trojan boys captured their third consecutive sectional title, finishing 1st out of 12 teams in the final season under the current classification alignment. In a meet decided by just five points, the championship came down to total team execution—every sprint, distance race, throw, and jump contributing critical points to secure the historic three-peat. Remarkably, these victories represent the only three sectional championships in program history, all achieved in back-to-back-to-back fashion.

On the girls side, the Trojans matched that intensity with an outstanding performance, finishing 2nd out of 13 teams. Powered by depth across events, multiple podium finishes, and record-breaking relays, the girls once again established themselves among the top programs in the section while bringing home another team trophy.

The meet also served as a critical qualifier for the AHSAA State Championships, where the top five finishers in each individual event and top three relay teams automatically advance, with additional wildcard spots awarded based on performances across all sectionals statewide.

Sprints

AJ Baker led the boys sprint group with a 5th place finish in the 200 Meter Dash, setting a personal record. He also added a 7th place finish in the 100 Meter Dash (PR), joined by Timothy Pruitt and Joseph Henderson.

On the girls side, Jessica Harbin turned in a strong meet, placing 3rd in the 200 Meter Dash (25.71, PR) and 5th in the 100 Meter Dash (12.72, PR). Sloan Williams added a 4th place finish in the 200 (PR), while Raylin Caldwell contributed a PR performance as well.

In the 400 Meter Dash, Sloan Williams led the girls with a 3rd place finish (1:00.37, PR), while Jessica Harbin (5th) and Alaina Hardin (6th) added valuable points. Donovan Lanier posted a PR (54.06) to lead the boys in the 400.

The distance squad delivered one of the most impactful performances of the meet, combining front-end scoring with remarkable depth—and doing it while taking on some of the heaviest workloads across the entire team.

Leading the way, Nehemiah Johnson and Josiah Johnson each competed in four events—the 1600, 3200, 800, and 4x400 relay—while John Moltz added three events (1600, 3200, and 4x400), showcasing exceptional endurance and commitment in a high-stakes championship setting.

Nehemiah Johnson captured the 1600 Meter Run title (4:26.45) and was supported by Josiah Johnson, who placed 3rd (4:28.99), and John Moltz, who placed 5th (4:31.84), setting a PR (2.3% improvement) and scoring key points.

Johnson returned in the 3200 Meter Run, winning again in 9:43.45 while setting a PR (0.4% improvement). Josiah Johnson delivered a huge performance as well, placing 2nd in 9:43.54 (PR, 1.3% improvement), while Moltz added another scoring finish in 5th with 9:46.25 (PR, 1.8% improvement)—giving the Trojans a massive point haul in the event.

Milton Sledge III added points in the long jump (5th), while Sloan Williams placed 3rd in the girls long jump and Jurnee Moore added a 5th place finish.

Closing

Leading the way, Nehemiah Johnson was named the 6A Section 4 MVP, scoring 28 points in a dominant all-around performance.

With momentum building, the Trojans now turn their focus to the AHSAA State Championships.

The Trojans qualified 13 athletes individually—9 boys and 4 girls—while adding two more girls through wildcard selection, along with two relay teams (4x100 and 4x400) advancing to the state meet.

Coming off a historic three-peat on the boys side and a runner-up finish for the girls, Hazel Green enters the state championships looking to carry that championship momentum forward and compete at the highest level.
