The Hazel Green High School Track and Field Team competed Thursday, April 9th at the North Alabama Junior High Championship, showcasing the depth and promise of its developing roster. With 28 athletes competing across 25 events, the Trojans proved they belong among the area’s best young talent. The girls team delivered an impressive 3rd-place finish out of 13 teams, while the boys placed 9th out of 14.
This meet featured only athletes who met qualifying standards throughout the season, making Hazel Green’s strong representation even more meaningful. The Trojans’ presence across nearly every event highlights a rising group that is already making an impact—and is poised to lead the program in the years ahead.
Sprints
The sprint group delivered a number of standout performances, led by Alaina Hardin, who won the girls 400-meter dash in 1:00.60, a 5.4% personal record improvement. She was joined by Jayda Morales, who placed 8th and scored points with a PR effort, and Sophia Velazquez, who also competed as part of a strong trio in the event.

On the boys side, Jeremiah Clark led the 400-meter group with a PR of 59.63, narrowly ahead of John West, who also broke 60 seconds with a PR of 59.65.
In the boys 100 meters, Joseph Henderson led the way with a 9th-place finish (12.27), while Jude Labrador and John West both recorded personal bests.
For the girls, Raylin Caldwell delivered a big performance, placing 3rd in 13.10 to score points, while Johnnasia Martin added a PR effort.
Henderson continued his strong meet in the 200 meters with another PR (25.15), joined by Aiden Crain and Micah Kentish, who both competed for the Trojans. On the girls side, Kieara Dodson led the way with a 7th-place, point-scoring finish and a PR of 28.13, alongside Johnnasia Martin.
Distance
The distance crew continued to be a key strength. Troy Wood led the boys with a 3rd-place finish in the 1600 meters (4:54.57), earning a podium spot. He was joined by Grayson Wimberly, who posted a strong PR.

For the girls, Emmerson Foreman placed 5th in the 1600 (5:57.18), leading a group that included Danielle Vibbert (7th, PR) and Natalie Moyers (8th, PR), with all three scoring points.
In the 800 meters, Wood added more points with a 7th-place finish, while Rylan Andrews recorded a PR and Grayson Wimberly doubled back to compete again.
On the girls side, Foreman ran 2:49.46 for a PR, joined by Natalie Moyers, who also improved her time, and Miranda Bush, who contributed in the event.
Hurdles
Juliette Douglas delivered one of the top performances of the meet, placing 3rd in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a PR of 18.53. In the 300-meter hurdles, Maci Sedlacek led the way for Hazel Green.
Relays
The relay teams were a major highlight of the meet, combining for multiple podium finishes and two event wins.
The girls 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams both captured 1st place, showcasing strong chemistry and speed. The boys 4x100 team earned a 2nd-place finish, while the boys 4x400 (4th) and 4x800 (3rd) teams added valuable points. The girls 4x800 team also delivered with a 2nd-place finish.

Throws
In the boys shot put, Adonis Billingsley led the way with a 6th-place finish and a PR, scoring points. He was joined by Griffin Bayne, who also recorded a personal best.
For the girls, Piper Seebeck had a strong meet, placing 6th in shot put with a PR and adding another 6th-place finish in discus. She was joined in both events by Addison Wood and Deaira Taft, with Wood earning a PR and points in discus.
Bayne also competed in the boys discus to round out his day.
Jumps
Seebeck added to her impressive meet in the high jump, clearing 4-8 to place 2nd and earn a podium finish.

In the long jump, Deshawn Riley led the boys, while Kensley Defoe represented the girls.
Team Takeaway
By the end of the meet, the Trojans totaled 3 event wins, 10 podium finishes, and 21 personal records—a strong showing at a championship-level meet.
With athletes contributing across every event group and many delivering personal bests, this was more than just a solid performance—it was a glimpse into the future. Hazel Green isn’t just developing talent; they’re building a team ready to compete at a high level for years to come.
