JV Trojans Stun at Sparkman

The Hazel Green High School Track Team JV squad competed on Monday, March 23rd at the North Alabama Jr. High Gold Circuit #2 hosted by Sparkman High School. The boys finished 9th out of 11 teams with 16 points, while the girls continued their strong season with a 4th-place finish out of 12 teams, scoring 66 points.

Sprints

The sprint group delivered strong efforts and continued improvement across the board.

In the boys 100 Meter Dash, Micah Kentish led the team with a 9th-place finish in 12.53. He was joined by 17 other Trojan sprinters, showcasing strong depth in the event. Among them, Kerion Cannady ran 14.11, a 3.0% personal best improvement, while Nathanael Vallejo also set a PR with a time of 13.40.

On the girls side, Raylin Caldwell stole the show, winning the 100 meters in 13.07, setting a new PR. She led a deep group of 12 athletes, with five additional personal bests, including a strong improvement from Jehavah Snyder (18.72).

Caldwell followed that performance with a 2nd-place finish in the 200 meters (27.77), pacing the girls sprint squad once again. For the boys, Austin Long led the 200 meters with a PR of 26.07, while John West (26.27) highlighted the improvements within the group.

In the 400 meters, Justin Myers led the boys with a time of 58.37, while PRs came from Zake Pepper and Matthew Harper. The girls were led by Alaina Hardin, who placed 5th in 1:04.52, with Jayda Morales (1:08.67) also setting a personal best.

The relay teams added key points, with the girls 4x100 relay placing 2nd (51.77), while the boys 4x100 placed 8th, with the B team close behind.

Distance

The distance squad continued to build consistency and depth.

In the boys 1600 meters, Grayson Wimberly led the team with a time of 5:37.21, with Michaelray Tate ran 5:56.87, while Ifesinachi Ukeje recorded a personal best of 6:19.86.

For the girls, Danielle Vibbert had a standout performance, placing 4th in the 1600 (6:20.44) with a PR, while Natalie Moyers added a 7th-place finish to score points with a time of 6:29.77.

In the 800 meters, Rylan Andrews led the boys with a PR of 2:30.14, while Michaelray Tate (2:41.70) also improved. Vibbert doubled back to lead the girls again, placing 8th in 2:55.75 for another personal best.

The relay teams continued to contribute, with the girls 4x800 placing 3rd (11:56.09) and the boys 4x800 finishing 7th.

Hurdles

The highlight of the hurdle events came from Juliette Douglas, who won the girls 300-meter hurdles in 50.22, setting a personal record.

On the boys side, Peyton Thompson led the team in the 110-meter hurdles.

Throws

The throwing events provided valuable points for the Trojans.

Griffin Bayne led the boys with a 3rd-place finish in the shot put (38-8), while Adonis Billingsley added a 5th-place finish.

For the girls, Addison Wood placed 7th in the shot put, while Deaira Taft recorded a PR of 26-0. Taft also led the girls in the discus, placing 7th with a PR of 65-2, with Wood adding depth in the event.

Jumps

In the field events, Piper Seebeck delivered a strong performance in the high jump, placing 2nd with a clearance of 4-8.

In the boys long jump, Deshawn Riley placed 7th (16-3) to score points, with Aiden Crain adding an 8th-place finish and a PR.

For the girls, Jordyn Robinson recorded one of the biggest improvements of the meet, jumping 10-9 for a 17.3% personal best.

Team Effort

Overall, the Trojans collected 2 event victories and 7 podium finishes while competing with 63 athletes across 115 total event entries — one of their largest meets of the season.

By the end of the day, 26 personal records had been set, continuing a strong trend of improvement across the JV squad. With each meet, the Trojans are gaining experience, confidence, and momentum as they push toward the championship portion of the season.
